Due to his level of GDP (1 907 thousand million euros in current prices of 2009), France is the fifth world economic power. Being part of the European Union, which GDP is about 16 390 thousand million euros in 2009, this allows France to have an important weight at the world regionalized economy, in particular against the north American and Asiatic regions. By being part of the European Union, France accepts the respect of the agreements about stability and growth (public budget balances, price stability, economic policy coordination).
It’s attributes are multiples: transports, telecommunications, agro-food industry, pharmaceutical products, as much as banking sector, insurances, tourism, without forgetting the traditional luxury products like leather goods, prêt-à-porter, perfumes and alcohols…).
The structure of French economy has been strongly evolved these last decades with the strong growing of services and the withdrawal of primary and secondary sectors.
French population, land for people from different origins and periods, represents 1% of the global population: 59.000.000 people, concentrated in urban centers, big industrial regions, and coastal areas. Even if there is an old population, its fecundity rate is still stable since 1973 and doesn’t prevent important decrease until 2020
After Second World War (1939-1945), France experienced a urban growth characterized by: a development of rural and peripheral areas; the development of an important network of public transportations to metropolis and an increase of industrial and services employment in those areas.
The French tradition is based on state intervention since Colbert: The State as the mayor customer, producer, employer, transporter, owner and businessman. Even if this intervention was supposed to work as an orientation and not as an imperative, planning has allowed the canalization of investments to prior sectors. Today, the role of the French state has been redefined according to a liberal policy followed by open economy transformation.

In spite of internal debates that show the continuity of a traditionally active political life, French people are still being attached to the idea that their country plays an important role in the European construction; they are convinced of the importance for their country to contribute in the looking of pacific solutions to solve international problems.
European construction has deeply changed the French economy. It has forced companies to compete not only to survive but to take advantages of opportunities offered by this huge market. The application of the principle of freedom of movements for persons, merchandises, services, and capitals, developed in 1993 has opened a new space for exchanges that includes 370 millions consumers for French companies. To resume, the EU has developed the French economy, specially agriculture, industry, transportation, and services.
Old European nation, former power, and inspiration for the ideals of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, France has always played an important role in foreign affairs. The objectives inspired by the French foreign policy has a characteristic of sustainability. The goals wished by the extrThe influence exercised by France has naturally changed since the end of the II World War but is still based on the respect of two ideologies: independence and solidarity.
It is also interesting to note that France is the first country in Europe and second worldwide in the sector of fairs, exhibitions and conferences (Paris is also the first city in the world in this field).
